Musician and Performer Finds Calling and Purpose In Performing For Children, Bringing Parents and Little Ones Together Through Music
Syosset, NY (October, 2015) — For many musicians and performers it’s often hard to find not only the right audience, but the best message they are looking to convey through their performance, lyrics, or the music’s overall feeling. For Keri Wirth however, her musical journey lead her to quite the noble calling- building a program based around original songs which help to calm and inspire children! As a singer/songwriter and performer, Wirth created “Me and You Music” to comfort children, help them relate to their emotions, connect with their parents, write their own music, and enjoy a musical adventure that brightens their spirits in an engaging and playful atmosphere. She’ll even be releasing a CD of original music titled “Me and You” out on iTunes, Spotify November 10th, with a CD release party Saturday, November 14th, 11AM at The Sandbox Playspace, 51 Gibson Avenue Huntington, NY 11743!
Keri Wirth has been singing and writing songs from the time she was 10 years old. A self-taught musician, she graduated from Cornell University 1996 where she studied Pre-Med, played four years of Division 1 soccer, and sang the national anthem at sporting events. Feeling disheartened after graduation, Wirth was not looking forward to a future with cadavers in hospitals, nor one that included singing “hello my baby, hello my darling,” on Broadway. Neither choice was inspiring, and she wanted to make a difference both scientifically and creatively- determined to find a way to bring these two sides of herself together.
Moving to Manhattan, Wirth went to NYU Physical Therapy school during the day and sang her own songs in clubs at night. She graduated from PT school and still did not feel content. In 2006 she completed a dance music CD called “Becoming”. At this point music had become her life, and a developmental deal with Sony records and other music labels was on the horizon. Though in love with writing and recording, performing was a difficult task and severe stage fright ultimately held her back from musical success. Needing to learn to relax in front of an audience, Wirth decided the best way to do that was to practice in front of children, and in 2007 she began her music education for children in NYC through a course called “Music Together”. The course began to suffocate Wirth’s fears, and she was rejuvenated by the response kids had to her. With everything feeling completely natural, she finally felt calm and realized she had found her calling, writing music that would appeal to both children and adults!
Wirth has said of her work through Me and You Music – “Music is a powerful facilitator for communication and learning. I’m excited to share my curriculum with other parents eager to explore music with their children. It is gratifying to hear from parents that my program has a positive influence in their lives; helping their children relate their emotions and write songs too!” continuing “As a parent of a 7-year old (Penelope) and a 2-year old (Montgomery), I find music to be a great tool in comforting us all and communicating in a positive way”.
With so much to offer children and parents it’s no wonder so many have been raving about her work, with some saying “Her enthusiasm, talent and love for children create an amazing experience!”.
